Defender question

I am sure there is someone in the club that is actively employed with Land Rover or is very close to Land Rover. Can anyone tell me if there are plans to import the Defender into the US market in the near term. I understand the challenges with the lack of air bags on the current Defenders. The market here in the US is devored of Defenders and a 1997 NAS model is commanding more in price than the sticker 11 years ago. I would love to see the Defender reintroduced in the US to help fill a niche LRNA desperately needs. Back in the 90's, the LR brand was looked at as a unique vehicle meant to take you to places not accessible via a traditional sports utility vehicle. The was an air of sportsmanship with the vehicles as they were marketed as a vehicle that could handle a jungle safari adventure.

Today's Land Rovers in the US a still very capable; however, they are marketed as a more cosmopolitan and ultra sheik vehicle. There is a sex appeal in how the vehicle are marketed that detracts from the actual origins of a LR vehicle. They are not necessarily seen as the vehicle of the past. Now I am speaking mainly of the RR, RRS, LR3 and the LR2. I would love to see the addition of the Defender to the US lineup. Any input would be appreciated.
