Copied and pasted from another siteLand Rover yesterday confirmed that it will cancel the Land Rover G4 Challenge programme in order to focus more on product launches in 2009.
"Given the severity of the global economic downturn and trading conditions, we need to make some tough decisions and that means prioritising our budgets on new product launches. We are disappointed for the competitors who have shown so much commitment and put tremendous effort into succeeding as representatives of their nation. We have and will continue to take swift and decisive actions for the benefit of the business; unfortunately that means the Land Rover G4 Challenge has to come to an early close," said Phil Popham, Managing Director Land Rover.
Popham continued: "We want to thank the suppliers and sponsors who formed an integral role in the Challenge to date. The Challenge played a part in bringing the adventurous spirit of our brand and products to life. We will continue to look at other opportunities which will enable us to engage with our customers and reach new audiences."
A key part of the Land Rover G4 Challenge was its commitment to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. The Challenge was utilised as a fund generating activity for the charity, with the aim of generating £1million over the course of the next two programmes. Despite cancelling the Challenge, Land Rover remains committed to this partnership.
Paul Jenkins, speaking on behalf of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, said: "The International Federation's partnership with the Land Rover G4 Challenge has already had a substantial impact on the lives of vulnerable people in many countries and we are well ahead of the targets we set. We highly value the support we have received and look forward to strengthening relationships between Land Rover and national Red Cross Red Crescent Societies around the world."
"This relationship is something Land Rover highly values and we are proud that it helps to save lives. We will continue to build on the incredibly successful partnership we have with the International Federation and the funds generated to date prove this success,” said Popham.

Dave Warren rang and told me this yesterday afternoon and I found it on the LRO site (posted at 1631). At last it's on the L-R website "latest News". Text is as reporduced above.Alan Edwards in doing some digging I gather that they (L-R) are still considering what to do; may ship the cars back for sale or go on to do a non-competitive delivery of stuff with the vehicles re-liveried as International Red Cross. Sad, but probably not good to be seen to spend too much n non-core activities - having said that, how much was left to spend after everything that L-R has invested in the 09 event so far? Chris B

What a shame that Land Rover have had to cancel the 09 challenge. It must be awful for those that completed the national selections and now can't take it any further. There is one part I can't understand and thats the fact the main G4 website has also been closed right down! Cant even look through anything of the past info. Hopefully they will at least sort the site out to give the credit to those who have completed past events and those that made the 09 selections! Whats the point in hiding all this info! Ant

It does seem a bit of shame, especially as the logistics (and possibly some of the budget) were already in place. I wonder if it will make our vehicles more desirable though, depending on how many have already been built for 2009?

Hey guys, just came back from holidays and the National Selections in Brazil.
Definitely very sad that the 09 event has been canceled, lets see what LR decides in the near future.
I would think that is too early to LR aehv decided what to do with the cars that are ready or about to be ready, but I'm sure Alan will let us know as soon as he can.
Will post some photos soon
Regards

Dear fellow enthusiasts,Most likely outcome will be a gradual sale of the 2009 vehicles over this year; most of the vehicles were completed..... I will post more, when I know more...

Such a shame the 2009 event is cancelled... wonder if the vehicles will be worth more or less as they haven't seen any "action"? Wonder if LR do release them trough the delaer next work, what the prices will be???? I would love a FFRR TDV8, but don't think I could afford one!!!

Quite a lot of interest in vehicles coming off the fleet on disco3.co.uk.....If it was my daily driver, I think I might be interested in an upgrade (hang the cost) but as it is a weekend toy now I will keep my purring petrol.
