Dear All, This is to notify that we have started to port the forum to a new ISP with software licence and service being owned by the club. Peter Jarrett, one of our founding committee members, has been kindly hosting the site via his work servers and the transfer is long overdue. As such, the forum will be brought down later this week whilst we transfer it to a new ISP. All being successful and tested we should be able to access it again by the weekend, however the IP address change to the new ISP is as yet unknown and may take longer for the international domain names. In all we are targeting the transfer of all components to be completed within the next two weeks. So, what do you need to do? In short not much. The look and feel for the new site will be the same, all posts will be preserved. When you find the site is not accessible, just wait a day or so and try again. If you have a club email address you will need to remap the POP account details, we will deal with this once the transfer is complete, drop an email to enquiries@g4ownersclub.com. Also after the transfer, some of your favourite saved addresses for the forum may not work, if the browser has saved it with an ip address. In this case, just retype the forum address on the browser address bar and once the forum has come up, save it again in your favourites. Undoubtedly, with such a major IT change there is likely to be problems, hopefully these will be minor. Please be patient as we look into it and work to resolve these bugs. Make constructive comments where possible and avoid rants, which can be at times tiresome and off-putting. ;) As you can imagine, this is time consuming and has to be fitted in beween our day jobs and family committments, this is a hobby after all but a great one. There are a number of members working hard to achieve this. The committee is very excited at moving the forum to its next level, since the forum's creation 2 years ago. The G4OC forum is quite vocal and provides a central place for communication for members and non-members, which is great for the club. Our vision is to offer our members more features and interaction going forward. Once the forum has been successfully transferred, we will post the new features that we intend to offer, so I am looking forward to that very much. :)

A quick update:The new forum software is up and running with the basic design in place. This can be found at the address www.g4oc.co.uk. So when you click on the link it is taking you to the new ISP. But the content has not been transferred yet. In the future all our domains/addresses will point to the same location/site. The target transfer of all the posts is now next week and also the main DNS transfer for the address that is www.g4ownersclub.com will now be next week. Meanwhile carry on using the forum as normal.:) Thanks to Peter and Anthony for their time so far.

One more thing: :doze:One of the earliest actions we will undertake to improve the forum is address data quality and look at the profiles of all members/non-members. We will do some of this at the point of forum transfer, for example we have old email addresses in 'your profile' which need to be updated, so please check your details and amend accordingly. Many Thanks.

Ant,
The forum seems a lot slower to me, other websites are fine but it's taking a long time for pages to appear on here. Just done a speedtest and my broadband connection is running at ~6Mb so it's not that. Any ideas?
Cheers,

Ant,
Two more items for your expanding to do list :D
Forum time appears to be two hours ahead.
The menus for Recent Posts and Popular Topics don't seem to be working, at least in Firefox. The drop down's appear but when you click on one of the items nothing happens.
Cheers,

Hi Everyone, just a note on the speed issue for the forum. Please bare with us whilst we sort this out. Sometimes it is running fine and other times not. As the forum has now only been up for a few days, I need see if once it has settled in on users machines that the speeds will pick up. I will be monitoring this over the next few weeks. Ant

Morning Ant,have you been working our magic again with the forum? It seems to have speeded up considerably since yesterday. Back to the speed we used to have before the change. The wait to load the forum area and access topics had been tediously slow, but not any more. Hopefully its not a blip. well done for all your work Rich

Ant,
Don't know if it helps but I've noticed that sometimes the links go to www.g4oc.co.uk instead of www.g4ownersclub.com. When this happens it prompts you to log int again. I notice it most when in private messages.
Cheers,
