I came across this company selling roof tents the prices seem amazingly low www.landroverrooftent.com/id68.htm .Has anybody got any first hand experience of the product either the large or small version ? At £500 the smal one seems too goog to be true.

Reason why the price is low is that this tent is made in China. It's synthetic fabric. Quality is not bad but not the same as the known brands such as Eezi awn, Howling moon, Autohome, etc,...

If price is a player go for it otherwise look for a South african one. Paul March from Footloose4x4 can tell you everything you need to know about tents.

We had a nylon roof tent from MyWay, south African but much lighter than the traditional canvas ones.

Used for 3 weeks through Morocco/Europe, great in the wind and on stony/sandy ground, or when scorpions are about.  Much prefer a caravan in Britain - something to do with the weather :D

Those of us with Freelanders need to consider the weight high up - so nylon is the better option.

Don't know how it will fit on a roof rack with side rails as I just mounted it direct to the roof bars.
