The above engine has gone, bottom half of the engine has become porous after coolant leaking, not sure why it hadn't been noticed before by Land Rover or 4x4 dealer where I had some work done though !!

£8.5k for a decent engone and a 3 year warranty, £3k for a reconditioned one and 1 year warranty..........OUCH

Any sensible suggestions please ???

Hi, Is the engine in a Discovery or Range Rover. High or Low compression V8?

That's an '03 FFRR and I think it'll be a ROW spec, not sure if that's high or low compression though and can't check at the moment as my copy of Microcat doesn't work on Windows 7 :w00t:

Hi, it's a Range Rover and not being 100% technical on the spec, I am not sure.

Its a long shot but didnt Equicar have some of these out of broken up G4 FFRR ?

I know they had lots of other bits, and there cant be many people looking for an engine of this type so they shouldnt be to heavy on price.

Just checked and it looks like it is a "normal" 4.4 V8 not ROW spec.

Yes Equicar did have G4 stuff, IIRC they had some US spec FFRR not sure about UK spec though. May be worth a punt though contact them here

Hi,

Just a suggestion, have a word with JE Engineering at Coventry, 100% proper job they turn out, they do the Bowler engines and Dakar engines. They might do an exchange block rebuild for you to any spec you like? http://www.jeengineering.co.uk/

Cheers
