So, any obvious questions I should be asking over and above those I would ask of any car purchase? It was on forecourt with no winch rope and remote was missing both of which they say are tucked away safe and will be sorted. There was a strange noise like knackered bearings in altenator or air con so they will sort that too. I want a roll blind for load space as well as the dog guard. They will make roof lights work. Not sure what else I should be asking for really. Chopping in a silver 57 2008 HSE for it.Cheers C

hi mr c well it should be orange plasma rope ,not wire hope you get the remote as these are a nightmare to sourse ,should 100% be with the landrover lights well you opened and hornets nest there .landrovers dealers CANT CONNECT THEM ,not road legal ...but read all the posts ,mostly a wire disconnected ,or fuse pulled out im sure dog guard should also be fitted ask 08/09 D3 owners........ not sure about roller blind as for whine/squeak you got me on that one im sure another member will ansa it anyway WELCOME TO THE ORANGE SIDE hope to see you at club shows ,what part of the country are you driving around

Welcome to the forum mrandmrsh - you cannot escape from some of us ;)When I got my G4 I was told the winch rope would be replaced with a new one as Land Rover cannot sell used ropes for some legal reason. You will probably find its not an orange one but as already mentioned make sure its not a wire rope they try and supply you with. Also the roof lights will come disconnected - ask to talk to the techy who disconnected it on how to reconnect it should you hve to use them off road. FYI, mine were just unplugged under the expo and was a 20 second reconnect job. Somethings I wish I had checked prior to buying mine. Tyres - Make sure there are no nicks in them. I forgot and whilst the tyres have loads of tread they also have a coupe of small nicks in the inside side wall. Sills - See if you can take the sill covers off. I found one of my sills is dented and now cannot get the dealer to sort it. They may of course charge you for new clips but these are peanuts. Underneath. Check for any obvious damage to the covers (gearbox) etc. Again I failed to do this and subsequently found them well damaged Remember the cars spent more time off road than on so just make sure you concider this. Saying all that, I wouldn't change mine or have stopped buying it had I found the above damage. Any more questions, you know how to contact me. Ian

The dealer will re connect them i bought the FFRR from farnels and the lights didn't work so i took it to my local dealer guy salmon Wakefield and had them re connected/ mended under warranty, as they are genuine parts fitted by land rover therefore carry a three year warranty.

Was there a 'standard' way of disconnecting the roof lights or is every car different ? I'm heading under the bonnet of my RRS tomorrow to see if it's likely to be an easy or hard task, be nice to know others experiences.

on the FFRR it was just a cut wire under the bonnet at the drivers side.

Well, hello there, there's a bloke looks just like you in this other virtual pub I go in!!
flinty (30/12/2009) When I got my G4 I was told the winch rope would be replaced with a new one as Land Rover cannot sell used ropes for some legal reason. You will probably find its not an orange one but as already mentioned make sure its not a wire rope they try and supply you with.
A question here that shows by lack of knowledge and experience but why not a wire rope? Is it just a usability reason? So I want a winch rope and not a winch cable.
flinty (30/12/2009) Also the roof lights will come disconnected - ask to talk to the techy who disconnected it on how to reconnect it should you hve to use them off road. FYI, mine were just unplugged under the expo and was a 20 second reconnect job.
The techie chap came out to listen to the whining noise and said he'd sort it said he'd fix the roof lights too.
I will run through your list of other stuff to check too.
Very very helpful, thanks Ian and many thanks to everyone else.
Regards
Craig

Thanks for the tip - as mentioned by flinty as well I will make sure I get plasma rope rather than metal cable.
I asked about the remote and they said it is there in the office.
LR dealer (as I mentioned below) has said he'll connect the lights.
It has a dog guard fitted (a two part jobbie with a part covering the bottom half up to the top of the seatbacks and another half up to the roof.
There isn't a roller blind but I have said I want one and salesman said he'll sort one out.
12 hours to go, man am I excited (how sad I know....)

Cheers Brendan, unfortunately I think mine has been raped and pillaged a bit more than yours
It now has RRS alloys on with the std Pirelli Zero tyres on (will get MTRs on when these are worn), the rubber mats will be taken from my part-ex as they are still in good nick, but the jerry cans/water cans have gone as has the shovel, first aid kit and winch cover :crying:
Any ideas where I can get the winch cover from?

Ah, just looked on eBay and they are only £15 so I will grab one (will try TLO first as he is a sound bloke - got iPod connection kit from him previously, would rather give him the business).
The dealer just called to say the whining noise on mine wasn't the alternator but was in fact the air con pump and so mine will not be ready as soon as I wanted so now I have to wait until 14:30.
Given I was up at 05:00 with excitement this is not good news :D

Sorry for the silence but I now have it.
It was supposed to be ready for 12:00 yesterday but the funny noise turned out to be air con pump so they changed it but car wasn't ready until 16:00.
Anyway, picked it up. First impressions are I love it.
Because of air con they didn't have time to sort the stuff out they said they would: -
* Roof light wiring to fix
* Wiper blades need replacing
* One of the dog guard fastener bolts is missing (and the guard rattles as a result)
* The winch rope is on order and needs fitting
* New rubber mats to be fitted
* My piano black dash mouldings to be transferred to G4 from my old HSE
* Tob bar electrics to be fitted (again from my HSE)
* Luggage load cover to be fitted
The sunroof obviously doesn't open cos there's a roof rack in the way (!) but should the front parking sensors work or are they disconnected because of the winch and A-bar gubbings?
One other question - what should the winch remote be like? It is a cable one witha rocker switch not a wireless remote - is that the right one?
All in all I love it - can't wait to use it.
Cheers

Currently sat in Farnell Guiseley waiting for LRA supplied Corsa cos my G4 front suspension won't raise (rear is fine). Dealer says he can't get a dealer car today, Enterprise say nowt but Corsa left.
Dealer has said he will sort a better car out tomorrow but I am not impressed.

Remove the number plate holder (two screws) put the winch cover on top, pull the cover over to the front ensuring it doesn't foul anywhere and also fits round the sides, clip the clips on the winch mount, put the number plate back on
Job done.
