Hello folks, My name is Martin Rider and I work for Arbil 4x4.We are the sole importers of Warn gear in the UK and as such, deal with LR Special Operations and quite a few G4s on a regular basis. Anyway, as you all probably know, LR will not sell G4s with a winch remote or wire due to H&S reasons but it's not an issue to buy the replacement parts and fit them and have it all working again (And it's legal). I have sourced the correct remote for a customer but still no joy with getting the winch to work as there is no power to it. On the bulkhead (And i believe it is peculiar to the Vogue only) there is a canister solenoid which Warn say is a LR part, LR say is a Warn part. This needs switching in order for power to reach the winch (And apparently lights too!). LR Special Vehicles (Only ones I could get hold of!) believe there was a small switch mounted on the dash somewhere, does anybody know exactly where? I don't have the vehicle with me at the moment so I can't just go and have a hunt around. Any help would be very much appreciated and look forward to seeing you all at Billing. Our stand is N15 and i'll be with the Camel Club as well with our GBR Pre-Scout '97 Disco. Hello to those who were present at Eastnor too and that I managed to say hello to. Thank you and regards Martin Martin dot Rider at Arbil dot co dot uk

ive just been out and looked at the canister in question fitted to the outside of where the battery is and it looks like the positive leed for the winch and a white wire for the spotlights both go through it. it says on it trombetta and made in the usa with lots of numbers that could be part numbers. there is definitley no master switch fitted to my range rover. when i collected the it from farnels at guiesley it had the winch controler in the door pocket and they had fitted a wire rope to it but it all worked i didnt have to do anything. The spotlights on the roof did not work but my local dealer guy salmon wakefield made them work under warranty and did a couple of other bits under waranty as well. if you want the park numbers off it let me know.Mark Roberts g4 range rover 2006, v8 90, 80" trialer.

Hi Martin,, did you sort your winch problem ?I can only speak re the Sport ! To this date, i have yet to find any master power switch for the winch, Landrover told me the same, ie there is a switch in the glove box !! The white wire Marco is on about, in the sports case is not the lamps, but the power feed to the solenoid, which comes from the remote socket, The way i have got mine to work, is to fit a new switched power to this white lead !! As lee says, do a search on my posts for the full story !!!

The solenoid is supplied by Warn as part of the winch kit... the white wire is energised when the correct remote is plugged in to the socket, thereby providing power to the winch. The remote can be identified by having all six (from memory) pins fitted in the plug, two of the pins are bridged to link the blue and white wires in the socket, the blue wire is an ignition switched feed.

Silly question, when you are trying to get the winch to work you DO have the engine running dont you?? All the D3, Sport, and RR G4's I have used here we have had to have the engine running to have the winch operating.

Tim, followed the link out of curiosity;) the blue wire is an ignition switched feed, on the 'standard' winch kit the connector is about 150mm from the socket, the G4 versions have the socket mounted higher - usually on the grille but the wiring loom is / should be the same... check for poor or corroded connections, the remote with the light in will not work as Warn have re-used the pins to supply the light +ve & -ve. If I get time tomorrow i'll do a pin-out of the socket connections. The ign +ve is from fuse 7 (or maybe 9 from memory) in the BJB as far as Disco3 & RRSport are concerned... The winch kit installation instructions on www.ownerinfo.landrover.com will provide (cryptic) details for other models.Baloo, the ignition needs to be on as a minimum, (preferably with the engine running) for the winch to operate, for what it's worth - I've examined several G4 vehicles and none have had a 'winch enable' switch fitted in theglovebox or anywhere else

10, that's useful info. I had a look at Craig's D3 the other day and couldn't quite figure it out, having had a look at the destructions it makes a lot more sense. When you say the destructions are cryptic, they're up to LR's usual standard  Re the remotes, are they custom made ones ? If not would have the correct part number for them?

Right,The remote WARN part number is 70077 - although it's not recognised on the warn site! the winch kit number is 70100 described as Winch, 9.5XP, 12v, 100, Hawse, LR I've got the pin-out done, just need to put it in a format that makes sense;)

Have you tried Arbil- can they get some? I am trying to do a deal with Martin at the moment (who started this thread) on behalf of the group, he is receptive but needs to confirm things.
