Well... What a roller-coaster ride the past 10 days has turned out to be!

/SOB STORY ON

Some of you already know that 18mths ago, I finally managed to track down the whereabouts of the TDV8 G4 RRS which was used on the pre-scout in Mongolia. It was sat in a yard, waiting to be processed through the same route that my old G4 Disco 2 went through. I expressed my interest in purchasing the RRS and was told that when it was ready for sale, I could have 'First Dibbs'. Nobody involved at that point thought any more of it as that is the route I used to purchase my old Disco 2.

I then carefully kept tabs on the progress of it through its re-work process until I received the notification that the car was now finished and ready for sale. In the notification, I was given details of pricing, who to contact to progress further, etc, etc...

Brilliant, my 18mths of patiently waiting had come to an end!! :w00t:

Or so I thought....

One very short phone call was all it took to completely take the wind out of my sails.

LR - "No, you're a contractor, you can't buy direct."

Me - "I don't want to go direct, I thought it was going via my dealer."

LR - "No, it'll be in the next dealer auction. They can bid on your behalf..."

My heart sank. :ermm:

So, to get a second opinion, I queried this via another route... They were told that it was company policy and that if a vehicle had been sold to me previously then it was a mistake!!

OK, there's still a chance. Off to my friendly local franchise I go and have a chat with them. We arrange a fee for purchasing on my behalf (which was less than I thought I was originally going to pay) and worked out how we want to bid, etc...

The day comes, I talk to the dealer, we set the limits and everything is ready. I was willing to pay a little over the odds but it eventually went for much more than even I was prepared to pay (even when using "Man Maths" and justifying it as an early 40th birthday present!).

I'm sure we'll soon see who purchased the car (I have my suspicions)... Yes, I am feeling more than a bit gutted at the moment. It's the way auctions work but most people I have spoken to, over the past few days, are surprised it even got that far.

Meanwhile, LR are laughing all the way to the bank.

C'est la vie... :crying:

Harwoods at pulborough £41995 and they will not knock a penny off, £37995 for the d3 recce car and they wont budge on the price, a bit steep when you can buy a rrs g4 2 years older for £17k less.

Hmmm... Ta for that.

I was wondering when they were going to surface and it'll be interesting to see how long they stay on the forecourt.

FWIW - The guys at my dealership (TH Whites) were fantastic (as usual) but if the guys from Harwoods want to give me a shout, with a sensible price... ;)

Well... Come January, the warranty would have expired. :Whistling:

Mind you, at that price, you'd hope they stick an extended one on.

They have to make their money somehow but some dealers are significantly better than others...

Like I said, TH Whites were fantastic. ;)

Took a couple of pictures at Harwoods this morning in case anyone was interested. Noted that it still has the original wheels and tyres, 19inch Continental, not Goodyear MTR.
