OPTIMA BATTERIES??

Is any body else using Optima batteries I have split charge fitted running a red (starter) and yellow (aux) batteries fitted but my D3 has gone through two red batteries since last Dec?? I decided to check all the wiring today and the cow boy who fitted the batteries and wiring deserves to be shot crimped terminals that were tapped up to cover up the fact the wires were insecure etc a fire waiting to happen??

I still can't see why my batteries are getting killed?

Is there anybody else having issues with after market batteries fitted to late vehicles??

Hi,

I looked into getting a split charge system on my disco but was advised against getting the red top(starter i believe) as there not upto what the D3 requires and that they fry!

I have run the red and yellow Optima's for the past couple of years and have had no problems, other than flattening the red when I left the lights on. I have a split charge system fitted and shows no issues. My 110 was parked up all winter as I could not use it and started every time even in the freezing conditions even with minimal use, whereas my Civic's battery died after 7 days of no use.

I have heard of the same problems with the D3 and the D110 Pumas frying batteries but have not had this issue as yet.

You may find that the poor installation had a large effect on the problem which you have hopefully cured now

I have had a red top for 2 years now, only gets used at the weekends, sometimes 2 or 3 weeks with no use, never failed to start, although I do get the HDC and EPB fail lights sometimes

Epb lights perhaps not so much but definitely a battery problem with the hdc lights. Had mega dramas a while back with battery and all related lights it was traced to battery, dealer provided new battery and hey presto no dramas.

I've had bad experiences with Optima batteries but mainly the Yellow tops. I had a pair of them completely die on me when out in Oz and the Optima support was appalling.

I've tried Optima and Oddessey now... TBH - I didn't find anything special about them so from now on I'm going to stick to the regular lead/acid wet batteries.

Save your money & do the same.

I used 2 Optima Yellow tops parallel in my Camel for about 3 years and one off them is now im my G4 as a second battery also parallel with a manual switch in case I want to power something overnight. And the other one is now the only battery in my 90 TD5. Both cars are regulary standing for weeks or sometimes even months without being started. And Happy to say that I don't have any problems.
