Dear Colleagues

For those of you new to G4 / off road vehicles:

If you are out in your G4 / Land Rover and want to help others, the best way to learn, is to go out with others more experienced than you.

Please ensure you are dressed correctly (ie some sort of high vis jacket etc) warm clothing

please dont try to attempt a recovery if in any doubt - better to play safe

at night, it best to have some sort of light / beacons to warn others.

carry: a blanket, flask etc, in case you become stuck yourself

always best to work in a 2 vehicle team, where possible........

one source of a reasonable priced beacon:

RSG also do Peli Cases at reasonable prices......

so if anyone can recommend other kit etc - please add a post......

Above all, please stay safe.

Good advice we may need it soon if this weather does what it promises but then they never get it right

We had a good 4" of snow last night, so this morning was entertaining watching al the cars, trucks and busses getting stuck :)

I did the fatherly thing and dropped the boys off at school as the school bus failed to show. For some reason they were not thankful.:w00t:

Another load forcast for tonight and its starting to snow again now :D

Always worth being prepared, this is us last new years eve helping a young lad get his Ford Focus out of a ditch up on Hay Bluff, near Hay on Wye. You can see I couldn't get a straight pull on the back of his car due to it being on a bend in the road on the hill. Once we'd got the winch rope off the floor everyone stood back well out of the way and a few pulls later the Focus was out.

It's worth noting that we used his towing eye, screwed into the back bumper socket. I warned him beforehand that the tow eye might not survive intact and indeed that's what happened, it ended up bent at 45 degrees.

I'd only owned the car 2 weeks at this point, was the first time I'd used the winch. Had I not been there, about 30 minutes later it would've been dark and there's no phone signal there, it's about 2 miles outside the viallge and his girlfrined was totally inappropriately dressed in lightweight shoes etc. He was very grateful to be recovered.

Technically illegal under the RVRL1989 for private users to display amber warning lamps but seems so common now it is difficult to imagine circumstances that you would get into trouble.

Its also a good time to drop into conversation that the Camel Trophy Owners Club have a stock of Peli 1520 and 1550 Peli-Cases for £65 and £75 plus postage - which is an absolute bargain!  Email shop@cameltrophy.co.uk for details!

Hi All

The snow up here in Edinburgh has been great fun to since saturday 2 feet deep in places and no gritters to be seen anywhere!!!! have recovered over 25 vehicles so far. Most people have been pretty stupid rathern than going back they keep digging them selves further in!!:w00t:. The fun problems are BMWs with slick tyres!!!! and most modern cars dont have good tow points on front or rear and most owners seem to have no clues about their screw in towing eyes. Will post photos later. lol

Edward.
