Lighst Glare - G4 rack

Hi :)

I got a question to g4 rack owners. Few days ago i fit my SD G4 rack, and mount my 4x Hella luminator compact lights in places as SD design it (and the warn lights was fitted)

Yesterday I use them and I have large light ingress through the windshield, and dash glare on screen.

How this looks on G4 cars ? Glare is present ? . As I said , we use a stock mounting points so should be ok - or maybe that glare effect is normal on those setups ?

I get a fair amount of glare and I suspect the FL is maybe a bit worse as it looks as though the windsreen slopes more making the lights further back along the length of the car.

In snow or bad rain they are unusable. Have considered another pair for in the A-bar but decided against it on the grounds of cost (I am from Yorkshire where we look after our pennies) and looks (it shouldn't have them)

The G4 F2's as used in Mongolia were only ever fitted with two of the Hella lights, not four..... perhaps there was a reason for that:Whistling:

They all have some degree of glare into the cab due to where the lights are sited.  Some are worse than others. the more shallow raked the windscreen the worse the problem.

Defender and D2 are better as their screens are quite steep bringing the lights further forwards. They have a different area of glare which comes from the bonnet, which you cannot see on the rest of the range, hence on Camels, the top raised section of the bonnet was painted matt black.

Solutions

Roofrack lights are only for realtively slow off road use.

Don't use them.

Fit some to the front of the car.

Wear sunglasses.

Thanks for info :) .

I use rack lights only on O-R. On empty roads i have another pair on A-Bar - so i don't use roof lights.

I'm just curious that is only problem with my lights, or this is a normal issue on this setup.:) , the hellas are similar size like G4 Warn's lights, but warn's have feature - you can select beam pattern (pencil/flood) - is that cool feature helps on that issue ?

The main problem isn't light reflected from the hood (it is quite OK), but reflect of dashboard on windscreen...

They all do that sir... ;)

If you look back to the original Freelanders that were used on the Camel Trophy, you'll notice that they put a black strip across the top of the windscreen.

there were 3 possible ways to stop this:

1.  Painting bonnet in black AKA Camel

2.  Adding a plate under lights to direct light beam further out

3.  A strip on top of the windscreen

It depends on model etc - on G4 the decision was not to use the above....

Thanks for info :)

I noticed that black strip on CT Freelanders , i test it with cardboard template and do the job - so I order the black strip to windshield :)

My is not 'genuine' G4 - so it won't hurt so much :D

Thank you guys :)
