Regretfully I have to sell my Range Rover Sport G4 Challenge, one of just 35 Sports built and used in the 2006 event.
The car is a 55-reg 4.4 V8 HSE (2006 car but lower car tax bracket!) and was used on the 2006 G4 Challenge event in Thailand. It was used only on the first stage of the event, and was a support vehicle for the second and third stages, so has not been worked hard.
As an HSE it benefits from all the usual luxuries and toys - black leather seats, electric front seats (drivers memory seat), heated front and rear seats, full-colour touchscreen satnav, electric windows all round, etc etc.
In addition, as a genuine G4 vehicle it comes with the followings extras: - Full G4 roofrack (metal floor) - 4x Warn rooflamps/spotlights - Warn 9.5XP winch with lead - Rear boot ladder - Front + rear light guards - Mantec steering guard - Mantec snorkel ...and a load of other bits and pieces I've probably forgotten! The G4 door decals have also been reinstated since the photo's above were taken, you can see them in the photo with the rooftent on top (which incidentally is not included!).
The car is in great condition - not mint, there's stone chips on the front bumper and a few other minor marks - but as G4 vehicles go it is very good condition, particularly underneath.
It was last serviced at 66k around 6 months ago, MOT'd at the same time. More recently I have spent £1,000 on a new air suspension compressor, pipes and front lower arms - all common failures on RR Sports and Disco 3's.
Car is available for viewing in Bucks at weekends or in Hinckley (Leics) most weeks. Price is £18,995 ovno - this is around £5k cheaper than similarly spec'd Disco 3's. Please email me on coultonm 'at' hotmail 'dot' com or call me on 07021 536189.
A recent job change has increased my mileage dramatically, so I need a diesel, sadly. I'll miss that V8 rumble that's for sure...

By RocKeR - 3 Oct 2012
I don't suppose you've got my original Mongolian Reg too Dave? ;o)
|
By Mike_C - 3 Oct 2012
Sorry Dave, not sure which one you mean? I have the G4 plate on the front of the roof rack and another pressed steel one on the rear, is that them? Or do you mean the actual registration number? What are the last three letters on the plate you have, if that is the case?
|
By stu_007 - 3 Oct 2012
He means the numberplate that was on your car in Thailand. In some counties the cars displayed local registrations or local plates with the British registration number on dependant on local laws. These are very rare and worth marrying up to the car.
Rocker; the Mongolian plates were all left in country although the club did get some ones remade but with slightly different letters and numbers as the Mongolian " DVLA" equivalent wouldn't allow them to be re-made! If you just want Mongolian plates I have a set of ones from a recce Defender that I used to own; PM me if you're interested!

BTW - sorry to highjack your post Mike! Good Luck with your sale.

No worries Kelvyn, that was the one for sale at Foley's wasn't it? I believe that was the UK Competitors' car, so for someone in the UK is probably the most desirable one!!
Anyway, back to my car... REDUCED TO £18,500 FOR A QUICK SALE!
Available to view in Bucks this weekend, or Hinckley (Leics) any evening next week.
Thanks,
Mike

Thanks Ian! I do love driving the car, it truly is brilliant but a recent job change means I now live 80 miles away from work, and running it is a little prohibitive really.
I have thought about running a second car for the weekly commute, but then the RRS would barely get used - probably for tip runs at the weekend or something, not cool! And it deserves to be used.
According to Autotrader it has had nearly 400 views since going live, but still not sold. Might have to p/x it at this rate!

Hey man,
if selling it like this does not work out for you, you can try offering it to www.landroverinkoopspecialist.nl . Sold my previous land rover there and mustsay i got a good price out of it! maybe something to keep in the back of your head?
Good luck on selling your beautiful range rover!
Greetings, matt

Unfortunately the RRS is the problem child of the G4 vehicles, they do not sell as well as any of the other models, and the V8 model in these times is also a negative. There are diesel HSE's about with similar mileages on for £1000 - £1500 less.

Yep, it's why I brought mine with me when we emigrated to Oz last year. Best offer I had for it was £14k. The engine & the history in the open market don't do it any favours unfortunately, they're really only for the specialist market or for some chav to turn into a bling monster.

Well, it's still for sale! I had someone interested at the asking price but the sale of their car fell through :-(
I'm almost tempted to LPG it and keep it, but have read mixed reviews on whether the 4.4 V8 takes well to such a conversion, even with a flash lube kit installed.
So, not sure what to do! In the meantime, I've had the gearbox oil changed this week as I thought it deserved it after the Morocco trip and I prefer preventative maintenance over reactive!!
Anyway, back to the original post - still for sale, anyone interested let me know!
P.S. Did anyone spot it in LRO this month?

Hello Mike, been following your story for a few weeks. One of the pictures of your car climbing over the ridge is now my screensaver (hope you don't mind). Doesn't orange really suit these? I have been very tempted to make you an offer, though I really have enough cars!. What a great vehicle though. I have been looking at buying a RR as my next car, and came across the G4 Challenge vehicles by accident as I like rather more unusual editions.I was inspired to enter your forum because I fully appreciate the desire to keep these vehicles totally original, but I have experience of lpg cars and would encourage you to consider it. I had a Jaguar XJR that was a dream but just too thirsty as it was doing about 18mpg and I was doing a high mileage. After an LPG conversion there was no noticeable change in power and as I had to keep records I can say I saved £17,000 when I sold it on with 180,000 on the clock. I could easily live with the equivalent cost of 35-ish to the gallon based on petrol cost. LPG in Europe is 20% or more cheaper too. Then followed a new subaru forester petrol that I bought with the intention of putting LPG on it. That gave me good service and was sold recently with 165,000 miles - a buyer came from Bosnia to collect it. I now have a diesel forester. However, savings apart, I quite enjoyed the engineering aspects of LPG - the car remains dual fuel and starts on petrol for about a quarter of a mile, to heat the evaporator etc - and the range is double as the petrol tank stays in. There's something about the go anywhere on either fuel sort of attitude that I think G4 people might like. To my mind, it's just another addition to add to the whole raft of extras that G4's have, and a high-tech one at that. My cars were converted by Neal Mugglestone at www.jaguarfuelconversions.co.uk and the pipework looked superbly crafted and worked like a dream. He was so helpful, one of these rare mechanics who really knows what he is doing in detail. It's a quandary, isn't it. Big powerful engine, thirsty with high petrol costs, and seemingly criticism over a conversion. I'd convert and enjoy. If I was honest I would probably say I enjoyed the LPG forester over the diesel even though both cost the same to run - the diesel does around 42 mpg. But that engine had the same revvy characteristics you V8 will have. |
