Thames Valley 4x4 Club are holding an off-road promotional driving day at Broxhead Common, Near Bordon, Hampshire on Sunday 5th August commencing at 9.00am. Broxhead Common is a popular MOD site with plenty of open space, mud and water to safely test both shiny vehicles and extreme off-roaders. A simple course will be laid out for beginners to follow whilst more experienced drivers can freely drive the area. Thames Valley 4x4 club is a family friendly club so why not make it a day out for the entire family. A burger van and toilets will be available. The event is being run under an MSA licence and basic scrutineering will apply (simple vehicle safety checks - see the website for details) . Cost is £25 for a full days driving.

I've driven at Bordon a number of times and it has a good range of routes for beginner through to experienced/trick vehicles.
I wondered if any G4 Club Members fancied a meet-up at the event this Sunday?

I was thinking about it, but don't think its fits the family diary - I would like to try and firm up the next one though.

Hi, I'm thinking about going tomorrow. I'm guessing that you don't need to be a member of tv4x4 to go. Also Iv'e had a look at the rules and you need a front recovery point which I have not got as the rope is off the winch at the moment, Should that matter. I have got a rear one. I'm not planning of getting stuck:w00t: I normally do. Iv'e fitted MTR at Billing so that should make a difference. Thanks Lewis

You don't need to be a member, just turn up and pay on the day (I'm not a member either). As for front recovery, we had a nosey at Craig's the other evening and their is a large recovery point dead centre underneath the winch so that's fine.

Hi,That's alright then. I forgot to mention earlier that I havn't got a tow rope, which I'm hoping shouldn't be a problem. If it is I will have to borrow one of my friend. Do you have to have off road insurance to take part. As my car insurance won't cover off roading. I am going to change it sometime soon. Thanks Lewis

Standard road insurance is all that is required. I've got plenty of strops, shackles etc (and a working winch)! What time do you plan on getting there, were are you coming from?

Hi, I will get there for 9am. I'm coming from the Hayward heath area. It should be about 1.20 min to get there. It's not to far from my works other depot. Thanks Lewis

Hi, I will get there about 9.30 instead. 9 am isn't that early :D. I have found a couple of shackles and a strop which I will bring. Iv'e just checked my insurance and it states that i'm not covered for racing, competitions, rallies, track days or 4x4 off road events. So if something were to happen I would be in the:pinch: I'm going to change it next week to include off roading. I will come down and see what the site is like and decide if it's alright to join in. It would be a shame if something happened. Thanks Lewis

Hi, Just had I look at the TV4X4 gallery for Broxhead Common. Some of it looks alright to do, most of it looks abit tricky. I think I stick with the easy stuff first. ;) Thanks Lewis

There is a wide circuit that you could easily do in a road tyre shod Disco without any fear at all, if you want more you can venture off piste, it's fine I assure you!
