Evening all,

I'm looking for a Discovery rear door spare wheel carrier. WHY? well I want to bolt it to the front section of the roof rack on G4 D11 to put 2nd spare wheel on for my trip to Morocco in July. I can then use locking wheel nuts to secure the wheel to the carrier to stop it being spirited away by some useless tea leaf.

Alan,

I was thinking of doing the same thing, then I saw how easy it can be to remove locking wheel nuts  Had a problem with the MG just after we bought it, realised it had locking nuts but no key. Took it to a guy I know in a tyre place and he had all four locking nuts off the car in about 2 minutes. All the kit he used is available from your local Halfrauds

Think you would be better to use a decent chain and padlock or something like a heavy duty bike clamp.

Martin,

That's the very thing i'm looking for. Thanks

Mark,

I too have sockets for getting locking wheel nuts off if the adaptor has been lost. However I was thinking more along the lines that if  the wheel was secured with locking nuts, it would deter to opertunist tea leaf as normally the spare on the roof rack is just tired/strapped on. But I take your point with the chain & padlock idea

Martin,

Just looked at the sellers other items, he's one greedyman. Sent a bid on the spare wheel carrier, looked at the bid history it's been on since last year. I don't think he want's to sell anything just likes to look at a big listing on Ebay.

Cheers

alan,

sorry havnt replied untill now;)

however make sure you try and get the tuff caps to fit over the nuts, the ones that are hammered on and make sure that the roof board is fairly well obscured as it wont take too long to saw out your wheel and carrier, but it will hold out against to the casual tea leaf.

Safety devices do a proper spare wheel carrier. I have one on the front of our other Disco a D1 with a SD roof rack. I will take pictures when it comes back from the garage. As the bolts that hold it to the rack are hidden when a wheel is on and you put a padlock on the thread to keep the wheel on. I think it was £150ish from SD new.
