Morning All, I’m a new member of the forum but a long time Land Rover enthusiast. I may be familiar to some of you on the DISCO3 forum but more recently I’ve swapped Discovery for Range Rover and have been wafting around in a 2002 Td6 Vogue. For the last 11 years, since I first saw a G4 D3, I’ve loved the tangiers range of Land Rovers. After 14 months of Range Rover ownership I’m getting itchy feet now that I’ve seen G4 D3s are coming almost into reach. I am thinking seriously about trying to get into the world of G4 ownership, but I have a few questions – I wonder if anyone can put my mind at ease? 1. Decals – I would be keen to restore my G4 D3 to its original G4 spec, including all G4 decals and letterings and with the black chevrons. I have read through many posts on here about ordering replacements but wondered if there is one definitive solution for having a G4 restored to its original decal spec? I wouldn’t like to gamble on sourcing a new decal manufacturer or on my own ability to stick them on properly! Willing to travel to get it done properly 2. A-bar spot lights – Whilst wanting to keep to original spec, I preferred the look of the 2005 G4s which had aux spotlights mounted within the A bar (with the grille over the lens). Can anybody advise which light units these are and where I could source them from please? 3. Fading Tangiers – I’ve heard murmurs on the DISCO3 forum that the paint fades. I would be keen to get mine detailed and protected properly but can anyone advise if they’ve had any issues with the paintwork fading on their vehicle? 4. Is there anything in particular I should look out for when examining a vehicle? I look forward to hearing from you! Cheers, Chris

First off welcome to the club. The decals on mine have faded and I have thought about changing them for new UV protected ones. I've desided to leave alone as they are part of the originality of the car. There may come a time when I will change them, but not yet ! I have yet to see any real signs of the paint fading and my car lives outside with sunlight on it all day, best thing is to keep a descent layer of polish on it, something I do regularly..

Welcome across.....
Re the graphics packs you can order via the club and get the complete set even including the fleet number sticker for the windscreen! Brilliant and great quality. I renewed mine a couple of years ago and they still look fabulous!
Re the fading paint I own an 08 one and despite only washing it ordinarily I have not noticed the paint fade as good old uncle del has described..... It was probably covered in dust!
Great car! Do it! You won't find a more practical vehicle in the world!

Welcome Chris...I am sure you will have many answers from the experts on this - I am like you a Landrover fan and long term owner but I moved to the Orange Side last year with a 2008 D3 G4. All I can say are my experiences...The club were really helpful in supplying the decals and help in correct fitment (mine had the wrong year type). I live near Cardiff and found a brilliant company to fit them and to make some of the ones the club didn't have at the time (Popin Graphics) - I have the details if you are close. Paintwork on mine seems fine so not sure about the fading noted...I suppose it's like any paint job...depends how well you look are it. Biggest issue I had was not checking over the vehicle carefully enough when picking it up from the garage (too excited by the truck!). We all know and have read the advice but I was like a big kid!

Hi All,
Thank you for the replies and for the warm welcome. If I do find a vehicle I would be very keen to get involved in the forum/club, and to start attending events (I work all over the UK and take my LR with me so would like to join in). Please do shout if you know of any.
Glad to hear the original decals can be provided, this is something I would be very keen to do. How do you go about ordering them in the club?
G4DiscoDave - great photo, that looks superb!!
Did these G4 models have the digital TV are rear diff spec'd on them?
Thanks,
Chris

Hello Chris, Welcome to the club. In answer to your questions. 1 - Decals. Individual and decals sets are available from the club. Some of the decals are genuine original stock. Some are remanufactured to original spec but with added UV protection, where applicable. When the originals are gone they will be remanufactured too.
2 - A Bar spot lights. Depending upon which event year of D3 you end up buying will dictate the lights in the A Bar. 2005 had Warn SDB160's, whereas 2008 had no A bar lights fitted. It would be your car so fit what you like. There is a standard LR loom to fit A bar lights.
3 - Never come across the paint fading. Even after decals have been removed and replaced the colour is almost identical below. Paint fades on the plaques and decals though. But if you prep, clean and polish regularly should never be a problem.
4 - Check with me technical at g4ownersclub.com. I will check and confirm authenticity. Check originality, what G4 parts are missing, broken need repairing etc. The G4 parts are rare and expensive now. As for vehicle you should treat it as buying any car as it is a standard D3 below everything G4. So make sure everything works, is fitted, HPI etc, etc. There is a vehicle spec sheet on the website to check G4 parts that were fitted.
Hope this helps. Adrian

Not got any prblems with paint fade but some of the clear coat on mine is flaking off :crying: I have just booked it in to be resprayed, to be fair the price isnt huge as its only a small area, having to remove the roof rack is gonna be a pain in the arse ! :crying::crying::crying:but hey i guess i will get to clean the roof as i doubt its been done from the day it left Landrover..

Welcome DiscoCY I've replaced my decals -08 D3 and there was no difference in the paint under the decals. The 08 D3's have TV and the active diff. Basically, they're a HSE with the benefit of the optional rear diff.
