Any idea why the application deadline for US contestants to the 2009 G4 competition is March 3rd? This is 6 months ahead of the application deadline for the United Kingdom. They just released information on the event here in the US and gave us the smallest window in which to apply. Is there anyone in the UK with Land Rover that can be reached regarding this matter?http://landroverg4challenge.tagworldwide.com/pdfs/LRG4C_2009_Official_Rules_English.pdf

I'm guessing its because they're piggybacking the Navada Passage Event for selections which are held 1st week in May.

LRNA made the press release on Feb 5, 2008 and gave the potential "pool" of US contestants only 28 days to register? Even less if they were to mail in their apps. As our firends across the pond would say "that's rubbish!". Could LRNA be more focused on the upcoming Trek event than the G4 event?http://media.ford.com/newsroom/release_display.cfm?release=27617

It is a bit naff! Of course most enthusiasts who want to do this would know but most countries these days are putting in very professional teams (SA & Aus for sure). I don't think that LRNA are looking for a pool of competitors that are anything other than those that are already taking part in the Nevada event. Which would explain the short notice. The Nevada competitors I'd guess are already registered and will by default be G4 selectees. I would say this has two benifits, a) its cheaper for LRNA and b) they get a more competitive team for the event.I have no inside knowledge on this but it just seems to make sense to me. Trek is being run by a different team of people - always has. Its a more dedicated event for dealers and they need plenty of notice to get fit! Hopefully my team will acquit themselves well this year.

LRNA emailed me back and you were correct, the timing of the Nevada Passage event is to coincide with the US selections. Maybe we can sneak in Brian Urlacher to represent us.

I think Land Rover are missing an opportunity by allowing semi pro athletes to take over the event. If they allowed "semi normal" people to do the event and created a televised "reality show" series from it they would get incredible marketing free of charge - Discovery Channel is so short of programming they would just play it over and over again. By "semi normal" - i mean people who have to be incredibly fit but not full time athletes.

aren't those exactly the people that compete in the Nevada Passage?

I believe that the Discovery Channel was already engaged in a G4 event. Below is a link to the event. I can not open the video from the US due to regulations. Hopefully there will be video coverage of the '09 event. Anything to promote G4 and the intrinsic value of the vehicles we own. You would not believe (except current US owners) that a 10 year old Defender is fetching £23k over here. I am hoping that actual G4 event vehicles will carry the same appreciative value. http://www.discoverychannel.ca/shows/showdetails.aspx?sid=492

The important question is how do I fake a canadian ip address - do you know how to IP spoof youtube? So that I can see the videos!Marcus

You can use a web server that uses Ip Spoffing or proxies from another country. I obs can't tell you which one because of legal issues, but I'm sure you will find one.Cheers Jules
