hi people,

i have recently managed to pick up a g4 mountain bike. I believe these bikes can still be bought new from landrover and i was wondering if there is a difference between the ones you can buy an the ones used on the event as i would like to know if mine is an event one.

cheers

An interesting question Mikey, I hope someone can help you with an answer. :D

The bikes on the 2003 and 2006 events had hard tails and front suspension.

2003 event bikes had rim brakes.

2006 bikes had discs front and rear

The Land Rover bikes you can buy have had suspension all round though there is a hard tail available for 2008. See here .

Adrian is quite right about the bikes with sus on the front but solid rears.

Worth noting that the 2006 disc brakes were cable operated, not hydraulic, allegedly chosen so that they could be air freighted without bursting the fluids.

Since returning from the event i haven't seen an 06 G4 bike for public sale - as Adrian says they are all full sus that i've seen...

The supplier has  not  made available for sale the same bike as used on the event as it did not make economic sense. The event bikes had high specifications, however the lack of hydraulic disc brakes would make it difficult to sell at a competitive price vs. what is offered in  the market.

They have then made the G4 lookalikes bikes (similarly to LR limited editions), which are the ones available for sale (there is a new hard tail available/ to be avalable soon) however these have lower specification than the event ones.

ok thanks for the info people.

My brother rang me up saying his mate was selling this g4 bike so i bought it thinking it may be original but its a full sus so its not. I do a lot of mountain bike riding and racing and this bike is a bit low spec for me and scenes its not an event bike im going to sell it.

So if anybody is interested, its very good condition almost new, i can send pics,

let me know

cheers guys

Well I think your bike isn't one that actually participated in the event.

The ones used with the national selections have been sold.

The ones used in the event are nt sold, I have one used in the actual event because I won the timezone challenge during the 2006 event,

The kayak, tent, gps and helmets as well.

See you
