Hi All,
My names Joe, I have a g4 discovery 2 inherited from my dad back in 2020, he passed in 2018 and was a former member of the club. We went to the Grayson heritage show back around 06/07 when the clubs were competing against each other over the weekend, maybe that continued.
When I got the car I didn’t have the money to do anything more than keep it going. I can invest a bit more now and the front suspension is looking tired and old. I am looking at upgrading the shock absorbers and springs, what I don’t know is if there is any kind of lift on the car from launch, it has the winch and roof rack but I can’t find any medium/heavy load springs without a lift on them.
If anyone has any advice on this I’d appreciate it.
Thanks,
Joe

All you need is the standard heavy duty front springs. From memory this is code Brown/Pink. I will check as i did a full chassis rebuild last year on my D2.

Hi Ant,
Have been to a specialist today, safari engineering in Eversley if anyone knows it. Dave Miles who runs it reckons a 2” lift and medium duty front springs, what do the heavy springs cater for as winch should only require the medium duty?
Thanks,
Joe

I would not try the lift springs as such as you started to mess up the dynamics. On the event they where running with standard springs thats why in the event pictures the D2's seem to have a slight nose down look!

Hello and welcome Joe! What a car to inherit, I’m sure you’ll get it right again and as Ant said, I’d go standard with these for the reasons Ant stated for dynamics but also as mods can be entail to value too. If they handled the challenge and Land Rover’s testing routines, I’m not sure how a lift will improve it on 95% of use? Get some pics and don’t forget we’re here to help, it’s great to see them reappear and get used.

Hi,
So to clarify, it appears the suspension is currently on a 2” lift, there’s no nose dip. Dad got the car around 05/06 and was the first owner post comp. It was a setup vehicle only, with 3,000 miles when we got it, now up to 110,000.
Given the car is on a 2” lift currently it seems prudent to keep it there, a standard height would effectively modify it from what it’s had the past 20 years. Is it possible the staging vehicles were setup differently. I have looked online and do see the nose dip Ant referred to but this is not apparent on mine.
