All,I am plannning to visit Iceland for a G4 expedition in June / July I would be interested in hearing from anyone with experience of offroad tracks and perhaps any of our Icelandic colleagues who maybe able to provide some directions on what routes etc are best to take or avoid! Ill be taking my G4 D3 with me ! I would also welcome anyone who would like to join ... Ill be camping mostly and the aim is to do some cross country F tracks .... some biking ... gentle hikes, swimming in some of the hotpools and plenty of fotos! :w00t: plan is to leave denmark 17 June and spend a few days in the Faeroes then onto Iceland returning 2 weeks later on the 3 Jul :smooooth: rgds Simon

Hi Simon,I'm pleased to hear you'll be going to Iceland; a few of us were talking about doing a trip next year :D you can be our guinea pig :D If you get the chance would you please make notes of where you visited etc. We visited our Icelandic friend and stayed for a 2 week holiday, we borrowed his car and a trailer tent, it's an amazing place, but make sure you have very deep pockets though, the cost of living is so expensive. :w00t: We would definately go back again and again and again! Safaris are an Icelandic company who organise the type of tour you are looking to do, it may be worth taking a look at their website to get some ideas, below is a link to some of their maps, I hope this helps you and we'll chat more tomorrow. http://www.safaris.is/maps.htm Kim :D

Would recommend Safaris, they are who LR Experience use for media trips etc. We were out with them last year and they are a great bunch of guys, also with very good English! LRE are out again with them during June this year so you may see some shiny new LR's about during your trip! Have fun..

Lovely place if you ever get the chance to go grab it with both hands. Keep an eye out for these Arctic Terns in the breeding season they get a bit aggresive if you get too close.

Augusto ... you know I always look after the best looking D3 in the club thats why I drive her!;) so heres a taster from iceland just a few while the washer is munching some clothes and I relax with some tea :P
up in the interior on the F905
great weather - this is up on the F26 high in the interior
Big Sky
Another river crossing! Not very deep this one but fast currents!
some banks of the rivers are covered in sticky black basalt sands - no problem for a V8!
more rivers!
more black sand
amazingly - high on the Vatnajökull Glacier - I meet a CT Disco coming the other way on the narrow track across the lava fields!
Glacier Lagoon Jökullsarlar
a land of ice ... Langjökull Glacier and fire..... sometimes in close proximity!
Ill sort some more out in the next days..... you can also see them live here..... http://www.pbase.com/dl4plm/iceland rgds

Hi Simon... Wow... We have to talk =)Are you sure you can't make it to our social in the Lake District?? ;) I'd say Iceland has to be on the agenda for 2009, hey Augusto? Best regards...
|
By The OC (Augusto) - 19 Jul 2008
Iceland is definitely a great destiny, there was an early talk about a 09 trip to Iceland with Kim & Chris and also Andy looking into it if I'm not wrong...that could also be interesting...but maybe too much adventure travel for the family after Morrocos:cool:...but no reason not to be another club trip on the works;)
|
By The OC (Augusto) - 19 Jul 2008
Those pics also deserve their place on the club gallery Simon ;)
Once you have some time pls send some to Peter JArrett with short write ups !
Great job!
