Goodwood G4

So there we were at the Goodwood Festival of Speed doing our Mountainbike Stunt shows and generally having a great time. It comes to the end of the show on sunday and we pack up all the kit and most of the team head home. I decided to stay on camp for another night to avoid the traffic.

I pop along to a local pub tat we had been to most nights, park up in the front car park and get chatting to some friendly Land Rover fans. They loved our G4 and was impressed with the mods we had made for our bike kit. Just as we were chatting about the rarity of the vehicles this pulls in-

I was 100% gobsmacked! This very new Defender is from the Nederlands and that chap (on the bonnet) is Mathijs who is the Product manager for LRN.

He and a couple of mates had come over to Goodwood to enjoy the event. They had popped out looking for somewhere to eat and spotted me. We all had a great night thanks to their boot load of Grolsh!

You always were a jammy boy Giles!  I guess they had a slightly lighter payload when they pulled out of the carpark in the morning then - thanks to your patented alcohol filtering system heh!

Catch up with you again soon Giles!

Brian.

P.S. How was Land Rover's presence at Goodwood this year?  Last year they had the Special Stage set-up from our 06 event, but i tried to offer my help this year and they said they weren't doing anything 'special' at goodwood - whatdidyousee?

We were down at the event and the guys from the netherlands were camping just across the field from us on the goodwood campsite. They took loads of pics of the FFRR as they don't have any there as 40% car and 60% tax so very expensive. Other than the land rover statue on the lawn i didn't think they did enough as the event was celebrating 60 years of land rover and porsche.

Hey Brian, you are soo right on the fuel system! Mark, the guys were telling me about your G4. They said they saw you but were too shy to go and say helloo!!

Here's the sculpture that Goodwood had made and Land Rover paid for outside Goodwood house. I know how much its cost, any guesses??? I did a bit of photo editing cause I thought the RR deserved it!

Oh no we didn't see them until saturday evening and we were going out to eat at the goodwood park hotel, we were going to go over later but got very drunk on champagne not a good head the next day worse than beer.

LR had a big hospitality package - reserved parking behind the house, refreshment and meals in the yellow room, grandstand, etc.

I was lucky enough to have a pair of tickets arrive on my doormat courtesy of LR.

Cheers

So the Duch G4 is a new model defender but in the old G4 style? So was it a LE G4?

So was it a LE G4?

Not Sure,, Looks XS spec, with the Brunel lamp surrounds etc !!

Similar to mine,, bar the colour ;)

By adesg4 - 17 Jul 2008

As TJ101 says looks like XS spec. Appears to be very close to the recce vehicles appearance but is fitted with 2006 rack and snorkle but has the new Hella lights. Recce ones have the new Mantec plastic snorkle.

G4 plaque looks bigger than the old one too.

For those who missed out...

The Earl of March is delighted to announce that this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed will be shown on ITV4 on Saturday 26 July at 16.45hrs.

The programme will last for one-hour and will show all the thrills over the weekend so settle down to enjoy the action on and off the hill. Cars and motorcycles on track, free climbers on the Land Rover central display, Dougie Lampkin playing hide and seek over the three days, the fabulous A380 Airbus on Saturday and Red Arrows on Sunday plus the hugely popular F1 drivers Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton.

should 1 or both of them have a front screen rollover bar?
By VA - 18 Jul 2008

Gilesmad - were you the chap who demolished Lord March's wall?:)

If you mean the 2 G4 110's, then no, as they are not LE's which I think were only available in the UK for 03, 53 and 04 reg's, though France had some in 06. BV55ZBY was a 2006 event vehicle on loan ( I think ) to the MAD team. The Dutch 110 is latest 07/08 spec.

Yes we have a loan vehicle. In fact today I picked up a pre G4 Freelander which I'm putting a few miles on whilst ZBY has its annual overhaul at Gaydon. Pic to follow.

Anyone down the South West come and catch us at the Newquey Surf Festival. We will be there with the G4 Recruitment team doing our bikey stunt stuff!!
