I am surprised that none of the 4x4 owners or clubs, and mags, respond to there totaly incorrect information.We need to make a stand or this will end up like the hunting lobby:w00t:

Group: Forum Member Posts: 57, Visits: 396	sounds to me like the same crp here in Belgium owkee here are some facts and figures ( European and Belgian, but I guess it will be the same for every European country ) 1/ 4x4 make only 6% of all road traffic in the European community, so how can we be responsible for all the pollution ? 2/ mono volume cars and big family cars ( breaks - mini vans- ... ) have the same level of pollution as our LR's, but are well respected by the community sic*, although they represent about 3 times more as 4x4 vehicles 3/ by average ( here in Belgium ) 4x4 have 40% less chance to cause an accident, 75% less chance to cause an accident with serious injuries to others an 95% less chance to deadly accidents ( as well for the own vehicle as to others ), the most "deadly" groups are trucks and buses - so the average 4x4 driver is more attentive in traffic 4/ and the real off-roaders have more respect for nature than the average car driver, they don't trow their garbage on the public road ( cigarettes, cans, papers, ... ) bottom line : although I only give you a few good arguments, those "nature loving" boys and girls are big polluters themselves : ever thought about the quantity of gasoline Greenpeace uses for their actions? ever thought what cataclysms greenpeace and the anti-nuclear front could cause with their wild actions? greetz Marnix ------------------------------------------------------------------- If you love life, don't waste time, because time is what life is made of

Then what these clowns are showing the public at prime time viewing is very important to take note of and respond. In France and Belgium there have been cases of damage and tyres cut . On the RRS site after last report on TV there where reports of coin damage to paint work. There are thousands of rural people who rely on these vehicles in there daily life and not just the wealthy land owners. I could go on this is very seriuos. This is supposed to be a country of freedom of choice.

Nickel mining (for hybrid batteries) is far worse than anything done by your average internal combustion engine. I watched last nights program and got slowly angrier and angrier as did my wife, have sent my comment off to ITV - not that it will actually make any difference to them. Basically it just repeated the same old rubbish about 4x4s over again and from an information point of view didn't add anything new. 4x4's pollute the environment blah blah, kill children blah blah, cause accidents blah blah all of which we know is not true. The closing comment summed it for me, "I'm not biased, I just don't like the things" well if that's not bias then what is? Yes we need to get off our backsides and do something about it, but what? Last night the guy from the SMMT tried gamely to point out the flaws in the arguments but was completley ignored, what chance do we have? You mention the hunting lobby, that got no where either - hunting was still banned. I'm not saying we should lie down and take it, but none of the ideas I've seen bandied around on various fora has any chance of success - a protest convoy round London was one idea I saw, what is that going to prove, that we can bring the streets of the capital to a standstill? That's not going to help. I do my bit at every opportunity, however until the next bandwagon comes along I can't see things getting any better. I could go on and on, but I'm preaching to the converted here, and anyway dinner is ready :w00t: Mark S. Group: Forum Member Posts: 57, Visits: 396	@Erasmus : I know how you feel, and I guess we are all in the same situation all over Europe. couple of weeks ago there was a talkshow on one of our dutch TV stations about traffic, security and pollution, and in the panel there were a couple of politicians, one guy from an alternative green group and one top official from our national rood security organization. The debate started off well as a show against 4x4 cars, politicians were making statements, the ecologist was raging as hell, till suddenly the official simply said : " sorry ladies and gentlemen, but if you wanna put 4x4 cars on the trial, please add family cars, luxury cars, mini vans and mono volumes, because they are as polluting as 4x4" result : everybody looked very embarrassed and started to talk about road taxes, end of discussion How can you turn the publics opinion into your favor ? Very simply by doing good and positive actions : - when you see a mother and her child standing by the side of the road, stop and let them cross the road, 90% chance that a "regular" car wouldn't stop - when you are greenlaning, instead of just "racing" through the country, stop if you see people, even get out of your car and chat with them, say them hello - if you organise an event with your local LR club, invite people with a disability so they can participate, or even better get the local press and give your profit for once to those organizations Most important thing is, we as LR owners, and serious off-roaders don't get tempted by the red scarf like a raging bull I hope I made my point, and I apologize if my English is not that good, I'm just a simple man from Belgium ;) greetz Marnix ------------------------------------------------------------------- If you love life, don't waste time, because time is what life is made of
