Group: Forum Member Posts: 33, Visits: 574	My 2006 reece D3 began its life as Silver I contacted Landrover this January in an attempt to get a letter to change my V5 with DVLA and hit a brick wall LANDROVER didn't offer any assistance and according to their systems my car is still SILVER with no mention of G4?? I ended up sending a number of photos with date stamps etc and after a couple to letters my V5 now states Tangiers Orange. I have since been told both my car ad the sister car where taken from the production line completed and then sent to an external bodyshop for trims off respray and G4 equipment fitment before being shipped out for reece early 2005. Now just a Normal D3 owner M30LRO soon to have some bolt on off road bits!!! Group: G4 Member Posts: 94, Visits: 5.4K	When we bought our FL2 the dealer in Bury was very specific - "It is not a genuine G4 as it was never part of the event, yes it was prepared by LR for the event, but never used". Fair comment as it had 900 miles on the clock. "All the equipment is covered by the warranty as it is genuine LR kit fitted by LR" OK someone had removed the ladder (and left the holes :w00t: ), but the body kit was fitted. In my experience warranty is generally down to the dealer - find a good one, use them for servicing, and they will look after you. I use the dealer in Stockport (there are three closer) for that very reason.

Group: G4 Member Posts: 63, Visits: 448	Ha! Looks like I opened a can of worms on this warranty issue! FWIW, my D3 came with the roof lights connected, the MTR tyres intact brand new on new alloys and two brand new extra 'spares' with MTR's fitted, plus the winch line intact!!! The only thing I had to do was sign a disclaimer that the MTR tyres would not be used above 100 mph! There seems to be a wide discrepancy as to what people get with their vehicles when they buy them. I bought mine to order from the disposal auction by Duckworth Land Rover at Market Razen, Lincs. Ben Duckworth there bent over backwards to help me get the vehicle and I have nothing but praise for him and the company. Problem is that my local dealership is hopeless, and the LR customer care department is less than knowledgable... the girl there had never heard of the G4 Challenge for goodness sake! The bonnet decal and winch issue I can deal with, it was the paint work and corrosion warranties that I was concerned about? Group: Committee Members Posts: 116, Visits: 2.4K	It might be worth contacting Stratstone Garage in Slough,when i got mine from there they had a D3 G4 that was always in for warrenty work,this particular one was being used by a guy that offered off road training.It might be the receptionist has a jobswoth issue,Richard 2008 Discovery 3. 2 x Landrover Freelander 1. 3 door V6 Brazil Event Vehicles .Discovery 2, V8 Australia Vehicle. Range Rover V8 Australia event vehicle. Treasure 2016 onwards.

FWIW - SV didn't get involved with G4. It was Vehicle Ops... A different part of the company. bumpy (19/08/2010) I was under the impression that they were sold without warranty --reason whysold at auction to 'trade'. Nope... Land Rover will only ever sell a vehicle into the 'Trade' and never direct. It is not uncommon for other manufacturers to do similar things with their ex-event / training vehicles. i.e. exclude the cosmetic bits from the warranty. bumpy (19/08/2010) To ensure type approval certain items were removed as not 'type approved' or tested -- MTR / Rock sliders+steel Cubby box, and to ensure no liability on winches -- ropes removed. Not quite... All of the kit on the later vehicles is type approved. The MTRs are removed as they are not speed rated for the vehicles and the winch line is removed for safety (as you cant guarantee what it has been through). bumpy (19/08/2010) The new LRX range rover presently has 200 pre-production mules under test around the world .... all will be scrapped at end of testing so why bother taking the risk of warranty claims on G4 vehicles that have had a 'hard life' prior to release in to the public domain. That is something completely different... All test mules for all manufacturers have to be destroyed under an agreement with HMRC as they are tax exempt for R&D purposes. It looks like the event Discos came out of the factory in Orange (though they still needed the trim panels re-spraying) where as everything else was re-sprayed. Group: G4 Member Posts: 253, Visits: 2.9K	Hi looking back over some old forum posts, some members have had the their hella floodlights repaired and even reconnected on the 2008/9 vehicles under warranty at LR dealerships, sounds like a case of some dealers will some dealers won't. Re colour, my vin plate states tangiers as original colour, and as Sweep states they must have stripped the vehicles right back to basics before re spraying, as I've found tangiers behind the dash and inside the roof liner, all places I'm sure wouldn't be re sprayed just to look good and get thrashed Rich just an after thought, Vic, there aren't many 57 plate 2008/9 vehicles, and Belguim selections where in May 2008, whereas my D3 was only registered in May 08, maybe G4 LRV was prep'd prior to the factory run of the remaining 08/09 vehicles to get ready for early selections and/or media work. Hence black to tangriers rather than just tangiers. Just a thought. 2008 G4 D3 TDV6 BG08 VGY Team SA colours

So, a warranty that doesn't cover the cosmetic bits is what I would expect. Frankly, they were built as competition vehicles, to be thrashed around the Gobi Desert and look pretty in photos. They would have been built to a budget and longevity would have been the last thing on their mind. Anything else is a bonus... This is one of the reasons why I get baffled as to why people want to pay mega-bucks buying one because it could have been used for anything!! As with all vehicles like these, Camel Trophy, etc.. Caveat emptor - Buyer beware AFAIK, all of the 2008 vehicles were re-sprayed orange for the event. So therefore, orange would not have been the original build colour. However, it does beg the question of how they deal with the Autobiography Range Rovers if there is a question over the paint finish??
