Wheel Bearing issue? Advice needed....

Group: G4 Member Posts: 168, Visits: 2.2K	Don't know if anyone has experienced this but i'm sure its not my imagination... My 08 D3 is fitted with new MTR's with 13 mm tread. All wheels straight and true and balanced perfectly.. When i just start to drive off and at low speeds only i get a very slight metallic vibration through the steering wheel. The tyres due to their construction and type obviously roar and rumble as you drive along but i'm pretty sure i am diagnosing it as the beginnings of a front right wheel bearing failure. However put it into dealer and they took off the wheels and replaced them with an ordinary wheel / tyre combo and they say theres nothing wrong with wheel bearing and are purely blaming tyres. However when i drive car and roll the car around a long left hand bend the rumble gets louder and the vibration gets more prominent which would correspond with my diagnosis.. Has anyone else experienced my issues? The vibration can only be felt with a light input on the steering wheel and at low speeds but feels metallic/mechanical more than tyre 'oscillation'... a Group: G4 Member Posts: 1.2K, Visits: 6.8K	Try swopping wheels that you have on currently. N/S for O/S rather than N/S for N/S. This will reverse any feathering effect on the tyres. Try it again on the road. If metallic could be bearing or CV or sticky brake pads. Jack up front and see if you can find anything when on full steering lock to both extremes of lock. Make sure supported on axle stands not bottle, LR or trolley jack. You will need to be spin the wheel by hand and listen for any noises. I have been convinced in the past that I have had wheel bearings on their way out with MTR's but even after changing both bearings vibration is still there. Goes when road tyres are put on though. Are the tyres newly fitted, if so get the balance checked with the wheel being supported at the rim bolt holes rather than the bore of the rim. the MTR's can be a pain to balance correctly. Group: G4 Member Posts: 168, Visits: 2.2K	Thanks that is brilliant! I thought it was just me. Great advice re swopping the wheels around however these are brand new and no wear on them! I know they are balanced properly as I watched the fitter do them! You have saved me great expense as I was adamant that it was the bearings. The fact that you had a similar problem and went to the expense of renewing them and it made no difference has helped. It is probably the pattern of the tyres creating the effect as they roll along Tarmac. It is only slight and must be one of the anomalies of owning one of these machines with MTR's fitted! I had the exact same symptoms, a hum coming from the front offside wheel hub assembly when turning slightly left.... turned out it was the wheel hub asembly in the process of failing.....
