hi has any one had any problems with selecting gears in a d3 auto. drive mine from Birmingham stopped for fuel all ok the stopped to pick Connor up put into park and did not register on dash could not take key out and could not move gear stick lads at garage plugged in cleared 3 pages of faults still would not go. spent 20 min on phone to AA whilst wiggling gear stick and key and it released but the gear stick is not in right place it seems to be one position out can any one help I'm fucked right off with it :angry:

Had a look last night . Had car looked at to day where connor works they have got moving with a temp fix but what worries me is they say the selecter cable has been bodged up it some time with zippy tags and will need new cable the only place done any work on car is a main dealer so suppose have them to thank for the zippy tag bodge

Sorry to hear that Brendan, however it is a common fault with D3's at the 4year mark. I went on the D3 forum and followed the instructions with new parts to fix it myself. Dealer cost often quoted at ~£600 if they know what they are doing that is; cost me about ~£20 for a 'suppresor assembly' under the gearbox. A bit awkward to fix but doable. Then you will need to re-calibrate the selector positions as the assembly and the selector detector are held closely together. Yes you will also get lots of faults showing as a result.
