First I noticed the livery which was obviously not the same as event vehicles. Then I saw the marker lamps in the bumpers which show this to be a NAS-spec Freelander.
Bearing in mind that the USA didn't partcipate in the first G4 events, does anyone know about these, presumably "display purposes only", vehicles. There was a Disco 2 too.
Are they proper vehicles or are they cunning mockups like LR have for going around shows, like the G4 RRS on a pole?
Cheers

An LE?
There was a US LE of 200 Discoverys. Don't know about other models:

Off-road capability is at the core of the Land Rover G4 Edition Discovery. The combination of a 4.6 liter, 217hp V8 engine, five-speed automatic transmission, two-speed transfer case with locking center differential, four-wheel electronic traction control (ETC), and Self-Leveling Suspension (SLS) give the Discovery G4 Edition it's greatest off-road capability ever.
“With this vehicle, we will capture the excitement of the event in a limited edition,” said Greg Gilliland, Discovery model manager. "The G4 Edition Discovery is a vehicle designed specifically with the off-road enthusiast in mind and its capabilities are being showcased throughout the G4 Challenge."
The Land Rover G4 Edition Discovery is painted in Tangiers Orange, just like the real competition vehicles and features an all-new, larger diameter roof rail design called the "Aero" Roof Rail system. Full exterior protection includes the Discovery front A-frame brush bar and rear lamp guards. On the inside the G4 Edition Discovery features an all-new "Foundry" trim finish that includes seats upholstered in “Black Mogul” technical fabric - a material unique to the Land Rover G4 Edition. An in-dash CD player, black leather-wrapped steering wheel, as well as driver and passenger electric seats, complete the G4 interior.
Only 200 of the Discovery G4 Edition will be built with pricing expected to be under $39,000. Availability will be in the third quarter of 2003.
They are denoted by the blue cheatline along the side. They don't have the groovy contour lines of the display ones though ...

The 2003 G4 Challenge did take place in the USA with stages in New York, the East Coast and in the deserts and mountains of Moab.
The livery appears to have been used on vehicles initially used in the USA G4 selections then on what were termed G4 Edition vehicles. These came out in 2003/4.
Nancy Olson was the USA competitor in 2003.

Just to add a little note, Nancy has promised to locate some of her photos from the event and email them to me, if and when she does I'll post them on here. ;)
