MT/R's On road behaviour?

Group: Banned Members Posts: 765, Visits: 45K	for a trip round Europe i would fit bf goodrich all terrain do 40,000 miles on a set good enough off road and very good on road with little noise. As for the MTR's if i had to use the same car for on and off road i would have two sets of wheels and tyres and swap them over for winter use 93 mph is not enough with a v8 under the bonnet and a heavy right foot. All you have to watch is town centers where they put sets of block paving half way round a corner that is tarmac in the wet its not great. Group: Forum Member Posts: 66, Visits: 438	I had BFG MT's under my Camel. That is empty 2500 kg so I was most of the time overweight. I never had issue with them and on a real wet road I love MT's. I work in the oilfield and drive a lot through europe mostly southern Germany and Austria. On my G4 nI have 2 set's Wrangler HP's and MT's I currently drive the HP's as much as possible I will use them till they are worn and replace them with real winter tyres. My MT's will be on most off the year and the winter tyres only when needed. I rate the MT's higher on roads with water on them. The MT's are very good against aquaplanning the HP might have a little better grip on a wet road without standing water but I feel more safe with the MT's. Question: What is the difference driving say 5000km during a europeen trip compared to driving 5000km in the UK. It's probably longer stretches in one go but further there are no differences. Speed references. The first version were only to 90 Miles I believe the newer are for a higher speed. Roel BN55 WPT G4 D3 LHD Team Greece. Group: Forum Member Posts: 49, Visits: 374	Have had MTR's on the 'Silver G4' for over 2 years now and never had any problems whatsoever, and that includes a lot of fast M way driving and long trips through Europe etc. I have even done a lap of Goodwood with them on! Not worth the bother of swapping them over each time you off road IMHO unless MPG is critical to you. If you have a rack on then that's Bu**ered anyway! LRE had them on the D4 support vehicles for the launch in Scotland and again all was fine on both fast road & mud. It's a great versatile tyre! Mine are S rated so for 112mph which is fine. If the supplier is trying to sell you a lower speed rating then it's old stock.... Insist on the S rating. A Silver G4... Best of both worlds?! Roll on Mongolia! Oh boll0cks, no Mongolia, might have to get a proper job...

Group: G4 Member Posts: 312, Visits: 4.3K	I have an 08 G4D3 on MTR's mine have an S rating and have done 18.000 miles since May and have had no problems i drive a lot on A roads and on motorways also use the D3 on sites in mud. Oh and why are they 55 profile, when the car runs 50 profile as standard ?? My recently purchased RRS is running on a real mix 'n' match set, some brand new 100% road biased Vredesteins on the front and Conti Cross Contacts on the rear / spare. Considering buying a single Conti to have a full matching set, flogging the Vredesteins and picking up a spare set of rimz for MTR's. BV55 YZE, Fleet No 19 - Thailand 2006 Now registered as YZE 481 in Melbourne, Oztralia.

Mines fitted with 18" wheels, but I have a feeling 16" with a set of AT2 would be closer to my style of driving. 18" wheels are already showing signs of scuffing as the smaller side wall brings the wheel rim into contact very easily. Group: G4 Member Posts: 259, Visits: 4.8K	Andy, Wheels are 17" 5-spoke split - I think these were used on Se spec vehicles. Part number LR001153 according to my invoice Tyres are 235-65/17 GYWMTR This combination not only look good on the vehicle but are great off-road. On road there is some road-noise compared with the 18" road tyres fitted as standard but they do not cause me any other problems. Hope this helps! Mole
