Group: Past Forum Member Posts: 92, Visits: 524	Any idea why the application deadline for US contestants to the 2009 G4 competition is March 3rd? This is 6 months ahead of the application deadline for the United Kingdom. They just released information on the event here in the US and gave us the smallest window in which to apply. Even less if they were to mail in their apps. As our firends across the pond would say "that's rubbish!". Of course most enthusiasts who want to do this would know but most countries these days are putting in very professional teams (SA & Aus for sure). I don't think that LRNA are looking for a pool of competitors that are anything other than those that are already taking part in the Nevada event. Which would explain the short notice. The Nevada competitors I'd guess are already registered and will by default be G4 selectees. I would say this has two benifits, a) its cheaper for LRNA and b) they get a more competitive team for the event. I have no inside knowledge on this but it just seems to make sense to me. Trek is being run by a different team of people - always has. Its a more dedicated event for dealers and they need plenty of notice to get fit! If they allowed "semi normal" people to do the event and created a televised "reality show" series from it they would get *incredible* marketing free of charge - Discovery Channel is so short of programming they would just play it over and over again. I can not open the video from the US due to regulations. Hopefully there will be video coverage of the '09 event. Anything to promote G4 and the intrinsic value of the vehicles we own. You would not believe (except current US owners) that a 10 year old Defender is fetching £23k over here.
