Sorry to repeat this subject but i also am suffering the same issue... I have recently bought Phil Newmans G4 D3 Tiger and have found the winch totally inactive.
Apparently LR removed the winch rope (due to liability reasons) and according to Phil it has never worked.. indeed he was not even supplied the remote lead.
I have ordered the replacement lead and plasma rope and was ready to fit only to find the unit totally dead. I am hoping that i was missing the isolator switch somewhere but on a cursory look cannot see one anywhere...
Without taking the front of the car apart does anyone know where either the isolator is fitted or where LR is likely to have disconnected the power supply?
Any help would be incredibly well recieved........
Also on a secondary note the front and rear Challenge G4 plates mounted ordinarily on the roof racks have been removed from both the front and rear of the vehicle. Does anyone have a pair laying in a drawer anywhere that they would consider selling or are there any replicants out there??
Many thanks Ian

Further to last post... spent the day under the car... moved the battery and got to the solenoid and all is well and still connected.. Then traced it back and all the relevant wires appear to be present and correct.... Now scratching my head....
Only slight query as there is another forum that questions whether the right remote lead is being used... Mine was missing and thus ordered another through Gigglepin...This is a brand new Warn remote but on inspection only has 5 pins on the plug. The female plug on the D3 has six wires going to it..
I am led to believe that the genuine remote lead for the G4's had a light fitted within the unit...My question is a : Is this true? and b : Are these leads interchangible? i.e. Is the sixth wire only powering the bulb in the remote handset or have i been sold totally the wrong remote lead which will never work?
A challenge to you petrolheads? Anyone who can assist will be the best person ever!!

Hi Ian, the remote handset for my winch (2008 D3) doesn't have any light in it, Haven't looked at the wiring in detail but it just appears to be a simple 2 way switch - winch out / winch in.

As far as I remember the only winch that used the controller with the light was the 9.5Ti. Have you traced the main power cables from the winch to the battery are continuous. You can apply power from a slave battery to the terminals on the motor and connect the controller this should tell you if it is battery connection related.
Could be the motor has got water in (sealing on Warn winches is rubbish).
Try another controller and see if there is clicking from the solenoids.

Thanks for your responses.. yes i've checked the wiring under the battery to the solenoid and both the wires are solid and continuous... is there a low voltage wire that is protected by any sort of fuse or relay? All the wires appear to be correct and in place and nothing obviously tied up and out of the way. All of the terminals in the remote socket are in good condition....
Rather frustrating really!

My 2008 D3 winch is also out of action at the moment. It was working and then it suddenly stopped last summer as I was winding it in.
As said before, the seal is rubbish and you should strip it down and overhaul it, being 4 years old now it is time, otherwise it will deteriorate rapidly - there is a overhaul kit you can get. So decided to take on the whole job. I took mine apart and have overhauled it now, it certainly needed it. You will be shocked to see the state inside. rust and debris.
However, mine is still not working. there is no power coming to any of the 2 pos terminals. I can see a bank of solenoids behind the grill just by the intercooler, but access is from the bottom. My next task is to check these out. The issue I have is that the bolts for the protective plate are seized and it is a bigger job now. I have already sheared 2 bolts! Hence parked the job for now.
I would advise anyone with a winch to use them regularly and also make a note to service them regularly if you you want a reliable and long serving winch.

Spooky but thats where i've got to now... i had all the battery out, A frame off, front grill off and checked all the wires above the winch which looked perfect and have got to the same position as you dreading taking the sump guard off just to get to the row of electrical connectors mounted on the radiator crossbar...
Think it would be right to have the whole lot serviced but i don't think it has ever been used in anger! Where did you get your service kit and how much was it?
