My winch packed up when I was moving my lightweight. Had been working OK up to that.
Removed it from the tray, the plastic vent pipe was broken, the winch internals were full of dust, corrosion and the end seals fell apart.
I dropped it off to Devon 4x4 when I was on way back from a family trip, my thinking is they have the expertise and access to all required parts - it's always the little clip, bolt, nut, seal that you haven't ordered that needs replacing.
So I'm waiting for a call to let me know it's all better.

Good question, the label says defender/discovery on it and the label dates to 2008. The part number is warn 69780 AO and 69782 if that helps. It has elastic acted straps on both sides and the top and bottom edges and is cut to fit the warn 9.5 . It also has two little slits at the front for the number plate holder! It's worth giving it a try and flogging it to a D3 owner if not at that price!

Right everyone.... I think we finally got to the bottom of it regarding the winch! Finally gave up and took the car to Gigglepin in Tonbridge to get them to sort it.
Apparently the 9.5 Xp that Land Rover ordered from Warn is unique in that it does have six pins in the socket to the remote lead. Thus the remote we have on the G4's must have six pins....
I was told this is no longer available! You may remember my car was not sold with a winch controller lead and so I purchased a new replacement from Warn. This only has 5 pins to it and did not work although the winch itself was absolutely fine! Gigglepin have reworked my winch and placed a small on/off toggle switch now on the grill so I can isolate it when not in use!
So I now have a working winch again! Hooray! just want the snow back again now!
Moral of the story ? Don't lose your winch lead!
As an aside anyone missing their original winch cover squibs063 on eBay had some for sale which are genuine Warn parts for £20 which I think was a bargain! They fit all models apparently!

Spooky but thats where i've got to now... i had all the battery out, A frame off, front grill off and checked all the wires above the winch which looked perfect and have got to the same position as you dreading taking the sump guard off just to get to the row of electrical connectors mounted on the radiator crossbar...
Think it would be right to have the whole lot serviced but i don't think it has ever been used in anger! Where did you get your service kit and how much was it?
Regards Ian

My 2008 D3 winch is also out of action at the moment. It was working and then it suddenly stopped last summer as I was winding it in.
As said before, the seal is rubbish and you should strip it down and overhaul it, being 4 years old now it is time, otherwise it will deteriorate rapidly - there is a overhaul kit you can get. So decided to take on the whole job. I took mine apart and have overhauled it now, it certainly needed it. You will be shocked to see the state inside. rust and debris.
However, mine is still not working. there is no power coming to any of the 2 pos terminals. I can see a bank of solenoids behind the grill just by the intercooler, but access is from the bottom. My next task is to check these out. The issue I have is that the bolts for the protective plate are seized and it is a bigger job now. I have already sheared 2 bolts! Hence parked the job for now.
I would advise anyone with a winch to use them regularly and also make a note to service them regularly if you you want a reliable and long serving winch.

Emon

Thanks for your responses.. yes i've checked the wiring under the battery to the solenoid and both the wires are solid and continuous... is there a low voltage wire that is protected by any sort of fuse or relay? All the wires appear to be correct and in place and nothing obviously tied up and out of the way. All of the terminals in the remote socket are in good condition....
Rather frustrating really!

As far as I remember the only winch that used the controller with the light was the 9.5Ti. Have you traced the main power cables from the winch to the battery are continuous. You can apply power from a slave battery to the terminals on the motor and connect the controller this should tell you if it is battery connection related.
Could be the motor has got water in (sealing on Warn winches is rubbish).
Try another controller and see if there is clicking from the solenoids.
