Tow bar electrics G4 RR

Group: Forum Member Posts: 101, Visits: 576	I have just fitted authentic towbar electrics to my G4, followed all the installation notes and on reconnecting the battery all systems are go less the remote control on the key fob (doors open/close). On phoning LR in York they told me it would cost £86 :angry: to reprogram the car to tell it about tow bar electrics and thus why key fob isn't working! Can this be right? :crazy: Also worth a note is that my boot release is still functioning normally! Would welcome any ideas and suggestions. I will try caravan on it this afternoon and report back findings. Dam the complicated wiring !!! Group: Forum Member Posts: 215, Visits: 2.2K	Hi, When I fitted my towbar and electrics to the L322 RR I did not disconnect the battery as all connections where push in. If you only remove the negative side of the battery it normally stops you loosing all the code history. I am presuming it is a genuine LR part??? There are a couple of LR independents around York who will do it cheaper than AM :cool:

Group: Forum Member Posts: 101, Visits: 576	Further update: I think my problem is now assosiation of key fob to car, has any one herd of the following (it's for a RR 2002-2005) Reset Procedure for your key fobs Every signal from the remote handset contains the transmitter identification code and a rolling code. The BCU checks the codes and only responds if the signal is from a valid transmitter. During vehicle production, the remote handsets supplied with the vehicle are initialised to set their individual transmitter identification codes and synchronise their respective rolling codes with the BCU. If a transmitter loses synchronisation with the BCU, or if a replacement or additional remote handset is to be used with the vehicle, the initialisation procedure must be repeated. During the procedure, all remote handsets for use with the vehicle must be initialised. Initialisation Procedure 1 Ensure the vehicle is unlocked and the driver and front passenger doors are closed. 2 Install a key/remote handset in the ignition switch, then turn the ignition switch to position I and back to position 0 in less than 5 seconds to put the BCU into the initialisation mode. Continue the procedure within 30 seconds of turning the ignition switch to position 0. 3 Remove the key/remote handset from the ignition switch. 4 Press and hold the unlock button for a maximum of 15 seconds. During this time, momentarily press the lock button three times within 10 seconds. 5 Release both buttons. 6 Successful initialisation is indicated by the BCU locking then unlocking the vehicle. If this does not occur, repeat step 4. 7 Repeat steps 4 and 5 with all other remote handsets belonging to the vehicle (4 maximum). When I got a new keyfob for my DII I had to get it added into the BCU using testbook/rovacom before it would recognise it. I'm wondering if when you disconnected the battery to put the electrics in the BCU lost all the codes. If so it could work out expensive as the keyfobs change their code each time they are used, it may not be possible to reprogram them and you may need to buy new ones. I would suggest finding someone with testbook/rovacom etc. and checking that the codes are still set properly. Mark S. The fault was in the BCU (Body Controll Unit), the unit was stuck in Transportation mode, this is able to be cleared using Diag computer.
